Bearclaws, Bismarcks, Cream Puffs, Donuts and the most incredible custom cakes in California! Four generations of Fresno families were treated to the best pastries anywhere around! After a long and very successful run as the Valley’s premier bakery, Lauck’s finally vacated their location in the spring of 2008.
In June of that year the Fresno Bee ran several articles about the iconic neon sign that sat atop the building on Olive Ave. for all those years. The articles told how Central Valley Estates had purchased the sign just before the bakery closed for good and how we had been trying for several months to find it a proper home.
Just one day before we were to drive it to Riverside to be purchased by a collector, we received a call from the Granddaughter of George Lauck, founder and long-time owner of the old German bakery. She explained how she had worked in the bakery as a child and had wanted the sign ever since that time. She asked if she could purchase the sign now and have her husband come pick it up. Arrangements were made and I think we were as thrilled as she was to see such a fitting end for this old gem from Fresno’s historic Tower District.
